Brisbane Kids STEM Convention
Time & Location
About The Event
The Kids’ STEM Convention began in 2007, growing out of the determination of a group of Brisbane teachers to increase levels of engagement in STEM subjects within their schools. Since then, The Kids’ STEM Convention has offered an annual opportunity for Metropolitan Queensland State School students in Years 5 – 9 to broaden their knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, by participating in a three – part learning experience which includes:
Inspiration: A student conference at UQ with eminent Keynote speakers and ‘hands on’ workshops
Investigation: School-based, extended inquiry investigations (8 weeks)
Celebration: A Forum at Queensland Academy of Science, Maths and Technology (QASMT) where students showcase their investigative projects and awards are presented in each of seven award categories
The Kids’ STEM Convention is highly regarded by the Queensland Department of Education, as evidenced by being a state finalist in the Showcase for Excellence Awards in 2009 and 2011 and being shortlisted for the 2012 State Finals.
Since 2007, almost 3000 students have taken part in the Kids’ STEM Convention within Brisbane Metropolitan area. Kids’ STEM has increased its influence in recent years with the launch of a Gold Coast Kids’ STEM Convention and has inspired educators internationally with academic papers about the Kids’ STEM Convention being presented, by previous committee members, at the 2nd and 3rd International STEM in Education Conferences in Beijing and Vancouver.
2018 will be the 11th season of the Kid’s STEM Convention.
We’re looking forward to helping make this year the best yet!
